The All Seasons Nave Altar Frontal for Canterbury Cathedral

My design for a new All Seasons Altar Frontal for Canterbury won a competition run by NADFAS in the Canterbury region and was subsequently created under my direction by the Studio team at the RSN.

I GREATLY ADMIRE THE FRONTAL — IT IS SO PERFECT IN ITS SETTING, THE COLOURING AND THE DESIGN. ON ONE OCCASION I WAS ABLE TO KNEEL IN FRONT OF IT WITH ALICE KETTLE, WHO WAS ALSO FULL OF ADMIRATION FOR IT, AND WE BOTH APPRECIATE YOUR SKILL IN MAKING IT.

I created the hand-dyed backdrop before working with and guiding the team to create the hand and machine embroidered panels. Canterbury Cathedral simultaneously commissioned a Lenten frontal and I developed the concept of mounting the two frontals on either side of one stretcher, together with a removable, reversible laudian altar cloth, ensuring maximum effect, practicality of use and ease of storage.
