It is the poetry of Nature; it is that which uplifts the spirit within us.’ John Ruskin Ruskin was a great exponent of developing creative industry through traditional crafts and gave his name to the successful creation of the Langdale Linen Industries in the Coniston area. The design also takes inspiration from the fabulous book cover designs of the Arts and Crafts period.

The central pictorial panel is based on the classic Lakeland scene at Yew Tree Farm, Coniston (film set for the famed ‘Miss Potter’). The design uses an applied pre-printed silk organza image of the farm landscape, overworked with stitches using a range of fibres.

The surround is worked on a base of wool tweed with a pre-gold-foiled frame of bookcloth, embellished using surface stitches, beads and couched silk gimps.
