The bedspread is worked on white linen using a mix of linen and cotton threads, the design incorporating a huge mixture of stylised floral, foliate and feather-like motifs typical of the textiles of the period.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e The ‘Ulster Pocket’ is based on the detached pockets, tied at the waist, which formed part of women’s dress in the 18\u003csup\u003eth\u003c\/sup\u003e c, prior to these being incorporated into the garment. This pocket is a miniature, perhaps child-size, version measuring 16 x 21cm which on completion could be displayed in a frame or used as a scented sachet.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e The design exploits the eclectic range of stitches seen in the original bedspread such as padded satin, buttonhole, counted satin stitches, trailing, eyelets and fishbone, with the addition of lace fillings. The embroidery is worked in a range of thicknesses of linen thread on an exquisite linen ground fabric which has been woven specially for the project over many hours by Roisin Aiston, in her tiny cottage in the Ulster Folk Museum, to replicate that of the original bedspread.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e The kits includes all materials and threads required to complete the embroidery design and to make this up into the pocket with bound edges and grey linen lining. \u003cstrong\u003e\u003cem\u003ePLEASE NOTE\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cem\u003e: the kit does NOT include the wooden handle pictured.
