{"product_id":"waitlist-for-lady-evelyn-s-purse","title":"Waitlist for Lady Evelyn’s Purse","description":"\u003cp\u003eThis design was inspired by Lady Evelyn Stewart Murray, daughter of the 6\u003csup\u003eth\u003c\/sup\u003e Duke of Atholl, of Blair Castle in Perthshire, Scotland. Lady Evelyn was expected to fulfil the expectations of her illustrious family, to be presented at court and find a suitable husband.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e However, she was highly intellectual and studious, often to the point of obsession. Much to the disgust of her aristocratic mother, she would travel throughout the Perthshire area and beyond, mixing with the local people and collecting Gaelic folk tales.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e She suffered various bouts of ill health in her younger years and at the age of 23 was sent away, first to Switzerland and then to Belgium, in the hope of an improvement in her health and to avoid embarrassment to her family. She never returned to Scotland.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e It was in Belgium that she turned her obsessive attention to the art of fine whitework, collecting antique pieces and also learning to embroider herself. She eventually embarked on the embroidery of the British Arms in the finest whitework imaginable.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e It took her 7 years to complete and is hailed as one of the most skilfully worked embroideries in existence. The Lady Evelyn Purse takes inspiration from her collection and the British Arms.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e The bellows-style structure of the bag is based on a 17\u003csup\u003eth\u003c\/sup\u003e century purse in my collection. The design uses a blend of silk organza and linen with an array of whitework stitches such as padded satin, eyelets, ladder stitch, beaded eyelets, cutwork and Ayrshire fillings, finished with a needlelace-covered tassel.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e The reverse of the design can be embroidered with initials and a date if desired. The design is based on Scots Lovage and has a matching \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/jennyadin-christieembroidery.com\/product\/lady-evelyns-flower-press\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eminiature flower press \u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e(purchased separately)\u003cstrong\u003e.\u003c\/strong\u003e Both are inspired by a memory told by one of the few local people who could remember Lady Evelyn, of her walking through the fields collecting wildflowers.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e The kit includes everything required to work the embroidery and make the design up into a purse, together with a matching miniature needlecase to keep inside.
