waitlist-the-embroiderers-workbasket-embroidery-kit
Waitlist for The Embroiderer’s Workbasket Embroidery Kit
This design is ideal for learning the delicate art of ‘Fine Whitework’. ‘Whitework’ is an umbrella term covering a vast range of individual and very distinct techniques, unified by being worked in neutral threads on a neutral ground.

‘Fine Whitework’ can be used to describe any of these techniques worked finely. However, at the Royal School of Needlework, it came to be used to describe a method of combining key elements from the whole spectrum of whitework disciplines into one, to be used as a means of artistic expression of pictorial or pattern-based designs with great depth.

This piece, based on pieces from my collection of antique needlework tools and lace, is designed to teach you the fundamental processes of this captivating technique, and covers all the key stitches. They form a tonal and textural scale from the whitest and most sculptural techniques such as padded satin stitch and trailing, through stitches like counted satin and darning patterns which add a little whiteness and interest to the surface, to those which begin gently to open the ground fabric (pulled thread, eyelets and ladder stitch) and finally those which extract sections of the ground fabric to reveal the world behind (drawn thread work and net insertion).

You may opt to work the design on very fine linen cambric (approx. 65 tpi) or very slightly coarser cambric (approx. 55 tpi), the latter making seeing and counting the threads of the linen rather easier.
These designs include working an Ayrshire needlelace filling.
