Millefiori Butterfly Brooches (Copper)

As a child, I spent many hours studying the intricacies of my Granny’s Italian millefiori glass paperweight collection as they glistened in the cabinet. I was fascinated by their intricate patterns, which reminded me of flower gardens and seaside sticks of rock. In fact, the Copper Butterfly was designed originally for my Granny, including shamrocks denoting her Irish roots.

The brooch is based on the delicate floral patterns of “thousand flowers” glass. The embroidery uses goldwork techniques but exploits the array of coloured metal threads now available.
