The All Seasons and Lenten Altar Frontals for St Lawrence’s

I was commissioned to submit designs for new altar frontals for the beautiful church in the village of Weston Patrick. The architect of the church was Thomas Henry Wyatt and it has a richly decorated interior in the Gothic Revival Style. My design was based on aspects of the internal decoration and church furnishings.

It is on this piece that I developed the unique concept of the embroidered element of the frontal being a detachable panel, secured through the altar cloth to a solid structure behind. The altar cloth can thus be removed for ease of cleaning and storage and can be changed with the liturgical seasons. The cloth is also reversible, providing a plain linen side for use with the detachable Lenten array depicting the crown of thorns.
