Coloured Metal Purls

Description

Coiling or ‘purling’ a very fine wire produces this material known as ‘smooth purl’. Being tubular and very flexible, it can be worked by cutting it into pieces, passing a needle and thread through the centre and stitching the pieces into place. It has innumerable applications in both metal thread work, stumpwork and creative embroidery.  It can be laid as long pieces over padding, cut into tiny pieces like beads, applied in loops, stitched and curled into dense textures, applied three-dimensional rods with bead ends, or anything else your imagination can come up with.

These purls are made in India and are less fragile than others.  This, together with their gentle sheen, makes them beautiful to work with.  The colours are Olive, Lime, Pistachio and Dark Blue.

Boxes contain a minimum of 1m of purl.

Please note that purl will always contain slight blemishes and colour changes due to its delicate nature. Blemishes are always allowed for in the amount supplied.

Supplied in mini clear boxes to protect the thread and for ease of storage.

Working with purl is aided hugely by use of a mellor to guide, smooth, curl and adjust the material into place.
